Los Angeles, CA – Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a total playground replacement project for Amelia Mayberry Park, a 14-acre park located at 13201 East Meyer Road in unincorporated South Whittier. The 2016 Parks Needs Assessment—led by the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation in collaboration with community partners—deemed the areas served by Mayberry Park as having “moderate to high” park needs. The playground at Mayberry Park has not been refurbished since 2003.

“It’s been 22 long years since this playground was last updated. It’s due for some TLC,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn, whose district includes South Whittier. “I’m proud that we’ll be delivering a new and improved playground for the children of South Whittier at this beloved park.”

The project will include replacing the existing playground equipment, shade canopies, and safety surfacing; renovating pathways and seating; and making related renovations. Construction is expected to begin in July 2026 and conclude by March 2027. The project’s $1,354,000 budget will be funded by the annual allocation grant program of Measure A, the Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks, Open Space, Beaches, Rivers Protection, and Water Conservation Measure of 2016.
