Returning Bruce’s Beach
After more than a year of hard work, LA County has officially returned Bruce’s Beach to the great-grandsons of Willa and Charles Bruce, a Black couple who had their beachfront property seized in an act of racism.
The ribbon has been cut on the Rancho Los Amigos Sports Complex, a 5-acre complex off Gardendale St. that has three multi-sport fields, lights for night play, a community room, and much more.

The deal on the Sterigenics facility in Vernon that came before the @SouthCoastAQMD Hearing Board today was weak — it would have allowed this facility to continue business as usual and even increase their emissions of ethylene oxide. I am glad the Board chose not to approve it.

There is zero room for compromise when it comes to our communities’ health. In light of months of proof of it emitting dangerous levels of carcinogenic EtO, @SantiagoAD53 & I are renewing our call for SCAQMD to shut the Sterigenics facility in Vernon down.
For months now, the SCAQMD has had proof that Sterigenics is emitting dangerously elevated levels of Ethylene Oxide, putting at risk the health of workers here in Vernon and residents just a few hundred feet away in @cityofmaywood.
