Long Beach, CA—Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Janice Hahn to establish a reward offer for information regarding the road rage shooting death of Nestor Tlahuel Mendez in 2023.

“Someone took Nestor’s life in a senseless act of road rage,” said Supervisor Hahn. “His family will never be made whole again, but we must do everything we can to bring the person responsible to justice. That individual is still out there. My hope is that this reward encourages anyone with information to come forward so the Sheriff’s Department can finally solve this crime.”

On Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at approximately 9:13 pm, 30-year-old Nestor Tlahuel Mendez was fatally shot while driving westbound on Rosecrans Avenue between Valley View Avenue and Marquardt Avenue, near the border of La Mirada and Santa Fe Springs. He was struck once in the left shoulder by the occupant of another vehicle and later died of his injury. His 15-year-old cousin, who was also in the vehicle, was uninjured.

Nestor was working as a food delivery driver at the time, and the Sheriff’s Department believes the shooting was motivated by road rage.

The suspect vehicle, an older black sedan, was tracked on camera leaving the area via Alondra Boulevard and the I-5 Freeway to Firestone Boulevard.

The board voted unanimously to establish a reward of $20,000 in exchange for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this murder.
