Supervisor Hahn Celebrates Safe Surrender of Two Infants
Los Angeles, CA — Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn announced that two babies were surrendered yesterday at LA County hospitals. A baby boy was safely surrendered at a hospital in Tarzana and a baby girl was safely surrendered at a hospital in Northridge.
“Every baby safely surrendered is a life saved,” said Supervisor Hahn. “Thanks to these two courageous mothers, a baby boy, and a baby girl will now grow up in safe and loving homes.”
As of today, 153 babies have been surrendered since LA County’s Safe Surrender Program began in 2001.
Parents or guardians may legally and safely leave a baby three days old or younger with an employee at any Los Angeles County hospital or fire station, no questions asked. They will not face arrest or prosecution for child abandonment.
