Redondo Beach, CA —  Today, LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn joined Mayor Bill Brand in touring a site in Redondo Beach where 15 individual pallet homes have been built as part of a yearlong pilot program to house homeless individuals in the area.

The project broke ground on November 23rd and residents will move in before the end of the year.

Supervisor Hahn committed $495,000 of federal coronavirus relief funding to purchase the pallet homes and related construction as well as $408,000 from her office’s funding to go towards operating costs.

“I want to thank the City of Redondo Beach for taking this project on,” said Supervisor Hahn. “They showed what was possible and I know cities in the South Bay and across LA County are watching. I have always said: If you are a City leader and you have a plan for a shelter in your area, I am behind you 100% and will do whatever it takes to make it happen.”

The site will have 24/7 security and three meals a day for residents as well as onsite case management. Harbor Interfaith Services will connect residents with mental health, substance abuse, and medical treatment if needed, and work to find every person permanent housing. The site will be managed by the LA County Department of Health Services, which also operates the County-run shelter in San Pedro — converted from an empty County building into a 40-bed shelter in just six weeks.
