Los Angeles, CA—Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a proposal by Supervisor Janice Hahn and co-authored by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl to create the County’s first ever Youth Commission. The commission aims to give a young people a voice in reforming policies that govern the foster care and juvenile justice systems.
“LA County’s most serious responsibility is the one we have to the tens of thousands of children in our care in both our foster care system and our juvenile justice system,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn. “Our success-- and too often our failure-- to serve these children can shape their futures. Los Angeles, CA — On Tuesday the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved plans for the Norwalk Library Refurbishment Project. The vote follows Supervisor Janice Hahn’s June 2019 motion authorizing $4 million in 4th Supervisorial District Capital Funds to go towards a refurbishment of the Norwalk Library. The Los Angeles County Development Authority will oversee the construction and development of the Project as it now goes to bids following Tuesday’s vote.

Los Angeles, CA — Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to increase regulations for massage establishments operating within LA County. The new requirements are the result of an ongoing effort by Supervisor Janice Hahn to help prevent human trafficking at massage establishments.
“Until now, massage parlors have operated with almost zero scrutiny and have unfortunately become safe havens for human trafficking right here in LA County,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn who has led the effort behind this new ordinance. “Regular, random inspections from the Public Health Department and new permitting requirements will be tools to help us root out human trafficking and connect victims and survivors with the help they need.”Read more

North Whittier, CA — Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has asked the Sheriff’s Department for increased patrols in the unincorporated North Whittier/Spyglass neighborhood after an armed home invasion took place Thursday night. Three male suspects held a family at gunpoint in their home on the 4000 Block of Indian Bend Drive while making demands for money. Los Angeles, CA — Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a plan proposed by Supervisor Janice Hahn to use a vacant County building in San Pedro as an emergency homeless shelter for three years.
The shelter will have 40 beds for 20 men and 20 women, 24/7 security, medical staff on-site, mental health services, and housing navigators who will connect residents with long-term housing that meets their needs. The shelter will operate for three years after which construction will begin to transform the site into a proposed mixed-use housing development.Read more
