Supervisor Hahn Urges Everyone to Comply With “Safer At Home” Public Health Order

San Pedro, CA — Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn is urging all residents to follow the new “Safer at Home” Public Health Order going into effect tonight at 11:59pm.   New “Safer at Home” requirements include prohibiting gatherings of more than 10 people, closing all nonessential retail stores, closing indoor shopping malls, closing all playgrounds, among other measures aimed at enhancing social distancing and slowing the spread of COVID-19.

“I want to thank all of the LA County residents who have been cooperating with the public health orders that have been in effect this week,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn. “This latest order enforces a simple fact: with this disease spreading, you are safer at home.  Everyone can still get the food and supplies they need – but by staying at home right now, you are not only keeping yourself as safe as possible, you are helping make it safer for the grocery store workers, healthcare workers, first responders, and transit workers we are depending on to be in public.”

Under the “Safer at Home” guidelines, L.A. County has directed residents to refrain from gathering in an enclosed space with more than 10 people. The order directs businesses deemed nonessential, such as retail stores and malls, to close temporarily. It also orders children’s playgrounds to close except those in childcare centers or schools.

First responders and those in healthcare, government, food services, transit, delivery, news, and other essential industries will still be on the job. Grocery stores and restaurants that are doing delivery, take-out, and drive-thru service will remain open.
