Supervisor Hahn Directs County Service Providers to Assist Homeless Man in Viral San Pedro Video

San Pedro, CA—After seeing footage of LA County Sheriff’s deputies dropping off a homeless man on a sidewalk in San Pedro, Supervisor Janice Hahn was immediately concerned about the man’s well-being.

“Mr. Bryan clearly needed help,” said Supervisor Hahn. “I question whether or not our Sheriff’s deputies could have done more to get him the help he needed before they left him and drove away.”

The video being circulated on social media shows Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies letting a homeless man, John Thomas Bryan, out of their squad car in San Pedro after picking him up in Rancho Palos Verdes. The Los Angeles Police Department later took the man into custody for a “failure to appear” warrant. He was taken to the 77th Street Division jail.

Supervisor Hahn instructed caseworkers from the Department of Mental Health and LAHSA to go to Bryan at the jail and connect him with County homeless services and shelter.
