Supervisor Hahn Appoints Ray Pizarro to Los Angeles County Commission on Disabilities

San Pedro, CA  – Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has appointed Ray Pizarro to serve on the Los Angeles County Commission on Disabilities. Mr. Pizarro is a Peer Educator at the Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center, where he has served as a member of the Patient Advisory Council for the past 6 years. He is also the Founder of the PUSHRIM Foundation, an organization that assists individuals with spinal cord injury and mobility impairments in improving their quality of life.

“Ray Pizarro has been a lifelong advocate for individuals with disabilities and has dedicated his career to making sure they know their rights,” said Supervisor Hahn. “His work helping these individuals navigate legal issues, advocate for themselves, and improve their quality of life is informed by his own experiences as an individual with a spinal cord injury. I am proud to appoint him to serve this Commission and know he will do good work.”

“I have been living with a spinal cord injury for over 26 years,” said Mr. Pizarro. “My experience and the challenges I have faced have motivated me to work to educate people with disabilities and empower them to live better lives.”

Prior to his work at the PUSHRIM Foundation and Rancho Los Amigos, Mr. Pizarro was a member of the City of Long Beach’s Citizen’s Advisory on Disabilities Commission, where he acted as an advisor to the Mayor and the City Council on issues impacting individuals with disabilities in the areas of health services and homelessness and housing.

The Los Angeles County Commission on Disabilities advises the Board of Supervisors on a range of issues affecting the lives of people with disabilities and avenues for improving accessibility to County services and programs. It also monitors the quality of municipal services, evaluates policy, and recommends improvements to existing laws. Its areas of focus include health, employment, education, transportation, access, and recreation.
