Foster Youth to RN programs :-)

Foster Youth to RN programs :-)

Creating a partnership with DCFS and California Community Colleges that guarantee enrollment of their RN Programs. (1-2 slots per college). I think this would be a great program for high performing foster youth that want to work in the health field. 2.75+ GPA required? If that's too much maybe start a pilot program with one college first.

@Daniel Garcia, advocacy leads to change. Attention must first be paid. As far as the post being seen by Janice Hahn I don’t know. I can only hope.

Let’s brain storm, Fox 11 and Wednesday Child, Christine Devine may have some helpful leads. Do you know if Janice Hahn has viewed your suggestion?

I may have access the some of the current top Movie Stars to join and market the Program.

Henry, there are many possibilities, great suggestion.

@ Daniel Garcia, I don’t see why we couldn’t copy that playbook an initiated here. The estimated cost at Los Angeles City College for their RN Program is $6,615 (Fall 2018 Nursing Program Application, 2018). I am pretty positive that estimate is pretty close to similar in all the other Community Colleges. That amount can easily be paid for by applying for the FAFSA and the John H. Chafee Foster Care Independence Program (CFCIP) that provides up to $5,000 dollars in addition to the FAFSA Funds. Additionally, the foster youth receive other awards during their Celebration Graduation Ceremony where they are provided scholarships they have been awarded. Finally, the return rate on that investment would net foster youth that would be making an average income of 68K in the nurse field to start. Oh, and it would be nice to get California’s 37th congressional district very own Karen Bass to help with this policy.

    Great Idea.
As currently Foster/Adopt parent of DCFS, I believe this suggestion would help foster child become successful adults in the future.

This idea is currently being done in the Philippines where children are trained via educational schools then recrewed by agencies and sent to US hospital to work. While in the US Hospital, the Hospital sponsor the RNs and arrange for their Visa/ US Citizenship.

The RN need is there, just need to do IT.
