Los Angeles, CA — This morning, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn honored the Artesia High School Varsity Girls Volleyball Team at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration for making school history and earning the title of CIF-Southern Section Division 8 Volleyball Champions. During the finals, Artesia was the only school to achieve a “three-set sweep,” winning three consecutive sets against their opponent to seal their victory.
“I always love honoring extraordinary student athletes who give the best of themselves not only in the classroom but on the court as well. I particularly love it when our girls’ sports teams really excel, as this one has,” said Hahn, who wore red and black, the school’s official colors. “The Artesia girls volleyball team give us great bragging rights. They’ve made us all very proud.”

Hahn presented each player with a certificate of recognition and presented the team’s Head Coach Francisco Serrano and Coaches Jose and Juan Serrano with official County scrolls. They were joined by Artesia High principal Sergio Garcia, and representatives from the ABC Unified School District.
“We faced teams that were bigger, faster, more recognized but we never let it define us. Every practice, every match we came hungry, determined and fighting for every point,” said the team’s captain, Djulianne Goze, during today’s presentation. Goze was also named the CIF Division 8 Player of the Year. “This championship was a historic moment for Artesia, the first CIF title for our volleyball program ever, and being a part of that moment means everything to us. It is proof that our belief and commitment can turn dreams into reality.”
