Supervisor Hahn Brings Hepatitis A Vaccines to Harbor Area Homeless Population

San Pedro, CA–  As the County of Los Angeles expands programs to combat the Hepatitis A outbreak, Supervisor Janice Hahn has organized an effort to vaccinate at-risk individuals in the Harbor Area.  Hepatitis A is a potentially deadly but treatable disease which poses the most risk to homeless individuals.

Supervisor Hahn has directed $10,000 to The Children’s Clinic (TCC) to fund the use of their Mobile Medical Van to bring vaccinations directly to homeless populations. She is also working with Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer to host vaccination events in local clinics.

On Thursday, October 19, Supervisor Hahn brought the vaccination van to San Pedro where County Department of Public Health staff administered over 40 vaccinations to homeless individuals. Harbor Interfaith led outreach efforts to the local homeless population. At the same time, Supervisor Hahn helped coordinate an accompanying Hepatitis A Vaccine Event and Health Fair at the Harbor Community Clinic in San Pedro where an additional 31 vaccines were administered to homeless individuals with the help of staff from the County Department of Public Health.

On Friday October 27, the TCC Mobile Medical Van will be parked at the Wilmington Town Square Park from 1pm-4pm to administer vaccines.  Harbor Interfaith will outreach to the homeless population in Wilmington and staff from the Department of Public Health will administer vaccines and assistance.

If a homeless individual cannot attend this mobile vaccine clinic during the times specified, Supervisor Hahn encourages them to get vaccinated at one the following local clinics or one of the 14 County Public Health Clinics.
